Dry Eye Symptoms and Treatment

Dry eye is more than just a description of a feeling it can be a symptom of a disease or syndrome. The symptoms occur when the quantity and or quality of tears no longer keep the surface of your eye lubricated. The symptoms can be slightly agitating or extremely painful. Symptoms include a feeling of something in the eye even though there is nothing there, scratchiness, excess tearing, then excess dryness. In extreme cases, there can be discharge, extreme pain, and redness. Blurred vision and heavy eyelids are also reported.

If your eye is perfectly healthy, you will not have dry eye symptoms. The symptoms are an indicator of an underlying problem or outside factor that may be very simple to fix or it may be an indicator of more complex eye disease. Certain medications, aging, certain skin conditions, autoimmune disorders, environmental factors, allergies, and even too much screen time can cause dry eye symptoms to arise.

Treatment begins with finding the exact cause. After diagnosing the cause your treatment may include medication, a change in medication, environmental changed, warm lid compresses, prescription anti-inflammatory, and even gland stimulation depending on your dry eye cause. Don't worry, when you come into Eye Doctors of Arizona, you are in the competent hands of professionals, our optometrist is experienced and can help alleviate your dry eye symptoms so you can live in comfort.

Testimonials

Reviews From Our Satisfied Patients

I recommend Eye Doctors of Arizona. The entire staff is always happy, pleasant, and helpful. Dr. Heller is wonderful... always thorough, and accurate. An excellent doctor. I was fortunate to meet his second son, Ben, who will be joining the practice soon. Now with their two offices, it is even more convenient to book appointments.
